About this tool

Paste your entrants one per line and draw one winner or many. Nothing is uploaded — the list stays in your browser — and entries can be weighted by repeating a line or by adding a multiplier, so "Grace ×3" gets three chances without typing the name three times.

The fairness is the point, so it is done properly. Picking a random index with the obvious remainder trick is very slightly biased, because the generator's range is almost never an exact multiple of the number of entries; this rejects the uneven tail of the range instead. Shuffling with the obvious swap-with-anyone loop does not produce uniform orderings either; this uses a real Fisher-Yates shuffle. The practical result is that no entrant is favoured by where their name sits in the list.

For a public draw there is a verifiable mode. The result is derived from a seed you choose, so anyone holding the same entry list and seed can re-run the draw and get the same winners. The tool also shows a SHA-256 commitment of the entries and seed together: publish that string before you draw, and afterwards it proves you changed neither the list nor the seed once the winners were known. The default mode instead uses the browser's cryptographic random source, which is unpredictable but cannot be reproduced or proved to anyone.
